In Buffalo, many RV enthusiasts find themselves with an unused motorhome or travel trailer taking up valuable space. Whether it’s a Class A Fleetwood or a pop-up camper gathering dust, it’s time for these vehicles to embark on a new journey. Donating your RV or motorhome not only helps you reclaim your driveway but also aids local families in need, enabling them to access vital resources and transportation.
Every season, countless Buffalonians make the generous choice to donate their recreational vehicles to Wheels for Hope. With a diverse range of models handed down, from classic Airstreams to newer Thor Class C motorhomes, every donation contributes to a larger purpose. How pickup works
For RV donations, we coordinate specialized pickup to ensure a smooth transition. Depending on your vehicle's size and weight, we utilize RV-transport flatbeds or drive-away services. If your RV is at a storage lot or RV park, we’ll handle the necessary coordination to ensure a hassle-free pickup. Please note that the vehicle’s length and height are crucial, as most states require a maximum clearance of 13'6”. Our team will work with you to arrange for the safest and most efficient transport method.
What drives donation value
The value of your RV or motorhome donation is significantly influenced by its condition and features. Key elements like house systems—including roof integrity, slide operation, plumbing, and air conditioning—are more impactful than the drivetrain performance. Water damage can drastically devalue your vehicle, so it’s essential to manage any existing issues. Providing recent maintenance records can bolster your vehicle's valuation. If you own a classic RV, an appraisal is advisable for tax purposes, especially under IRS Form 8283 Section B, so you can maximize your donation impact.
Documentation you need
- Title of the RV or motorhome
- Service records detailing maintenance history
- Manufacturer's Statement of Origin (MSO) for off-road vehicles
- Appraisal for classic RVs to ensure proper tax deduction
- Completed donation receipt from Wheels for Hope
Buffalo specifics
In Buffalo and throughout New York, it’s important to understand the DMV regulations regarding RVs. Donors should be aware that while state titles are standard, some transactions may utilize a bill of sale for older models. Ensuring that your title is clear and transferable will expedite the donation process. New York requires a proper inspection before transferring ownership, so having documentation in order is vital for a smooth transition.
